en 1910 le fue otorgado el grado de teniente coronel, por el General Emiliano Zapata, al demostrar gran valentía, coraje y habilidad como jinete. Carmen Vélez, conocida como "la Generala", comandó cerca de 300 hombres que lucharon en los estados de Hidalgo y Tlaxcala.
