The time machine has broken down. To repair it we need to acquire some parts that can only be found in different places at Paris, otherwise Ignace may never be able to return to his present in 1534. Visit the different eras and pass the tests to collect all the parts. But be careful, if you falter during the search, the temporary doors might close, making it more and more difficult for him to return.
