The gruesome story of Emmett Till
Emmett Till entered the store and bought a chewing gum just in order to “charm” the cashier, Carolyn Bryant aged of 21 y was at the cash register that day. What happened in this Grocery was not very clear. According to Carolyn Bryant, Emmett whistled her and said “ goodbye darling”, but she changed repeatedly her version. And from Emmet’s Till cousins he just whistled at her and left the store.

We are in August 1955, when Emmett Till goes to his uncle’s house in Money a city located in Mississippi. During his summer holidays, with his cousins, Emmett Till went to a grocery store belonging to a white family, the Bryant. He bragged to his cousins that he had a white girlfriend and to prove it.

The Tallahatchie River
He was kidnapped
4 days after this event, Carolyn brother’s came around 2 a.m. at Emmett’s Uncle and kidnapped Emmett Till, even though his uncle try to stop them.
"Two days later"
The naked body of Emmett Till was found floating in the Tallahatchie River, a cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire. His face was so disfigured that it was difficult to recognize him.

Mamie took her fight to the people and gave speeches to overflow crowds across the country. Black people were galvanized. NAACP membership was soaring. African Americans were angered by Emmett's murder and the injustice, and moved by the loss of an only child to a young mother.
Mamie Till's courage and perseverance encouraged black people in the United States to fight for their rights.
In December 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery city bus. She was arrested for violating Alabama's bus segregation laws.
Martin Luther King Jr. called for a citywide bus boycott. The civil rights movement was officially born.
