L/O - Explore descriptive writing techniques and use them in your own writing.
DO NOW!
Using the following picture, carry out the following task on your whiteboards. 1. Describe this image. 2. Zoom into one aspect such as the flowers, grass, or the rainbow.
TASK
In pairs, you will be labeled A and B. A’s – face the board. You are going to be DESCRIBING what appears on the board. YOU CANNOT SAY WHAT THE IMAGE IS. B’s – turn so you can’t see the board. You are going to be sketching what the A’s describe.

I Do, We Do, You Do!
I want you to pick one image to write a description about. Lets look at an example.
REMEMBER TO : - Include the general and particular (Big Picture and Zoom in) - Use at least 2 of the five senses, 1 simile, and 1 metaphor Challenge: Can you include personification?
Task
Example - The beach
The golden sand stretched along the horizon as far as the eye could see. It felt warm underfoot and tickled like a feather between the toes. The tide gently lapped against the shore leaving a trail of white foam that inched ever closer toward the sun bathers. All along the beach, holiday makers relaxed: many had deep, brown tans, whilst some were as red as lobsters. Shoulders and necks sizzled in the heat and skin began to peel as sun cream was hastily applied. Foam from the crashing waves gobbled the pebbles of the beach, raced toward them, and threw its icy fingers over their bare toes. Lone swimmers weaved along the distant horizon, gliding head first into the waves, and then moments later surfacing for air.
Now lets pick one to write a description about. Let's do one together. Minimum 8 lines
