Hi!. I'm Manuela Pipitone, I teach Maths in STEAM classes in "Liceo classico Francesco Scaduto in Bagheria. In my free time, I play chess. After teaching for 20 years at a technical and economic tourism institute (ITET), three years ago, I requested a transfer to the classical high school in Bagheria. The Headteacher asked me to create the STEAM course, which I enthusiastically accepted. Now, I'm proud to present it to you.
I'm very passionate about technology and I'm a chess player. I sustain a way of learing that helps students who face Maths to transform their errors into beautiful opportunities.
I’m Francesca Gambino, I’m an English and French teacher, I teach in a high school near Palermo, Liceo Ginnasio “F. Scaduto”, in Bagheria. I also deal with assessment, Erasmus, and musicals.In my free time, I love painting, playing tango and the transverse flute. The first time I experienced Metaverso was two years ago, but I’ve always been fascinated by virtual reality. My dream would be to teach my students literature and history through metaverso, by creating a virtual world whose protagonists could be Shakespeare or King Henry VIII. I’ve always encouraged cooperative learning and peer-to-peer education in my classes, though theatre, for example, so I think that virtual reality could be a valid instrument to spark the students’ curiosity and make the learning experience enjoyable.

Hi! I’m Marina and I attend the third year of high school. Since I am a very tidy and prone to leadership person, my task within the group is to collaborate in the organization of the activities. Furthermore, I really enjoy taking part in assets that require technological skills
Hi, I'm Sofia Di Salvo and I'm 15. I help everyone in the team and I like working with them and with computers. My favourite subjects are English and Maths.
Hi! I’m Federico and I attend the third year of high school. Since reading books is one of my greatest passions my task within the group is to provide some bibliographic material that may be useful for the projects developed in digital form
Hi! My name is Ada Tripoli and I'm 14 years old. I work as a computer scientist in the team, I like to collaborate with the other guys in the team and study new websites and apps
Description of the STEAM program
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) paths are study programs that aim to integrate the scientific-technological approach with humanistic disciplines to promote a complete and interdisciplinary education for students.In the specific case of the Liceo Classico (Classical High School), the STEAM track involves increasing the number of hours of math and art compared to the traditional curriculum, with the aim of educating students who can understand and apply scientific principles to everyday reality, as well as developing the computer and technological skills necessary to access today's job market.
Objectives of the STEAM program at our high school
The STEAM program in the our classical high school with an additional hour of Maths have dedicated to robotics and metaverse two very current and relevant topics in the digital era we live in and an hour of art (in English is an excellent combination of knowledge and skills. Students have the opportunity
- to study and apply the knowledge of these disciplines creatively and innovatively, developing problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
- to learn the fundamentals of robotics, designing, and programming of robots and automated devices
- to acquire a complete and integrated education, preparing them for the challenges of the future.
art
The art hour in English is focused on the exploration of visual art, including painting, sculpture, architecture, and design. Students have the opportunity to express themselves creatively and acquire the necessary knowledge to appreciate and analyze art critically. Additionally, the study of art in English is useful for improving students' language skills and preparing them for the global world we live in.
Mathematics on steam
The method used, especially for mathematics, within the STEAM program at Liceo Classico Francesco Scaduto is the inquiry method. The main goal is to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental principles of scientific research and the inquiry process, and to develop in them:
- problem-solving skills,
- autonomy and the ability to work in groups,
- the ability to critically evaluate sources of information, and to make informed decisions based on available evidence.
Mathematics on steam
The student's opinion is that at STEAM, mathematics is taught using a scientific and innovative method, which includes the use of Metaversus. The goal is to help students become autonomous in organizing their study as quickly as possible, while also providing them with a comprehensive preparation for the future.
Robotics with block program
Robotics and block programming are closely related fields.Block programming is a programming technique that enables the creation of programs using pre-defined graphical blocks that are linked together. These blocks represent programming instructions and can be used to create programs even without knowledge of the syntax of a particular programming language.Teaching block programming is very useful for classical high school studies students as it allows them to acquire:
- a basic understanding of programming and develop
- a greater understanding of computer logic,
- critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Metaverse and Mathematics
The students were introduced to Euclidean Geometry and the much-discussed fifth postulate, as well as the Klein and Riemann models. They were then asked to create the Museum of Geometries on CoSpaces. During the creation process, each student delved into different aspects using historical sources found on the web, and doubts and observations were shared. Working as a team to design the museum made the treatment of the topics more enjoyable for them, and compared to the methods used in previous years, a greater students' predisposition in addressing the topics covered was observed.

conclusions
STEAM students:
- acquire interdisciplinary skills that help them think creatively and innovatively to solve complex problems;
- develop technical and technological skills such as programming, 3D modeling, 3D printing, and computer-aided design that are increasingly in demand in the current and future job market;
- learn to work in groups, communicate effectively, and adapt quickly to changes, skills that are essential in a collaborative and increasingly dynamic work environment;
- approach to learning values creativity and artistic expression, which can help develop students' curiosity, imagination, and self-esteem
Reflections on the future prospects of your high school's STEAM program
The next goal is using artificial intelligence, first studying its pros and cons and, together with the students, as it was done with the metaverse, evaluate the most effective path to undertake to enhance the skills of adolescent learners.
