this week: subject verb agreement

When you write a sentence, your subject (the person or thing doing the action in the sentence) must agree in number with the verb (the action) in the sentence. Incorrect: Every single one of the children are going to the play. Correct: Every single one of the children is going to the play. The trick: cut out the fluff of the sentence and place the subject right next to the verb. Don't be distracted by "of the" modifying phrases!
