ARTEMIS

THE GODDESS OF THE HUNT
¿WHO IS ARTEMIS?
The goddess Artemis was the goddess of hunting and wild places. Daughter of Zeus and Leto, she was Apollo’s twin sister.
HER TEMPLE
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Artemis usually appears as a twelve-year-old girl, with yellow-silver eyes like the moon and incredibly beautiful brown hair.
Her temple was located in the city of Ephesus, Turkey. Commissioned by King Creso of Lydia, it was designed by the architect Quersifronte. 127 columns of 18 meters high surrounded the main body.
HER RITE
HER MYTH
HER SYMBOLISM
Artemis is most frequently portrayed in ancient Greek art as a beautiful maiden huntress with quiver and bow or, alternatively, a spear.
In her ritual, the priests place in the temple offerings for Artemis, which are food, and a group of soldiers have to take them.
The myth associated with Artemis is "The History of Acteon". Actaeon accidentally saw Artemis bathing on Mount Cithaeron; for this reason, she transformed him into a deer and was chased and killed by her own 50 dogs.
