Life and identity

Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist who may have been born in Bristol, England. He is known for his satirical art, often done in public places. He came to notice as a freehand graffiti artist. Banksy merged graffiti art with installation and performance art.

Carreer

Banksy started as a freehand graffiti artist in 1990.During this time he met a Bristol photographer, who began selling Banksy's works (later he became his agent). By 2000 he turned to the art of after realising how much less time it took to complete a work. He claims he changed to stencilling while hiding from the police under a rubbish lorry.

He has always declared he remains committed to street art, even if the popularity of his work led to numerous unauthorized exhibitions and reproductions.

Although he is increasingly famous, Banksy remains anonymous, his rare interviews are conducted by e-mail or with responses delivered by an altered voice on tape.

Banksy's stencils feature striking and humorous images occasionally combined with slogans.The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalism, or anti-establishment. Subjects often include rats, apes, policemen, soldiers, children and the elderly.The components of the human condition that his works commonly critique are greed, poverty, hypocrisy, boredom.

Banksy has done works all over the world, but his main operas are graffiti and big installations. Some of his paintings are known everywhere, we are going to present three of his most famous operas:

Girl with the balloon

The red colour of the baloon is the first thing that attracts attention. It, carried away by the wind, represents love, hope, innocence and freedom, thay are the key values to escape from wars. The most important thing, as it is written on the wall, is that "There is always hope".

Napalm

The litte girl in the picture is an innocent victim of the war in Vietnam. She is represented between two of the most famous symbols of the USA, economic and capitalistic growth and mass culture: Mickey Mouse and Mr. Donald's, but the question is "Are they saving her ?"

Devolved Parliament

It is a very significant picture that depicts British politicians while they are discussing in the House of Commons drawn as if they were apes talking to each other.
