German planes began to fly over the streets of London

German armed forces surrendered unconditionally to the Allies

Germany invades Poland.

Evacuation of the children

Over two million British children were evacuated from big cities to escape the expected German bombings.

Each child had a namecard on his or her coat, a gas mask, food and a amall bag with clothes

Millions of school children travelled with their teachers

When the children arrived in the villages, the host families came to choose them, like parcels

Some children were lucky and enjoyed country life

Other children were no so lucky and suffered a lot been away from their parents and working very hard
