RECAP

Miss Helen talks to Klara about how Rick is trying to get into Atlas Brookings, the only college with unlifted students, but without tutor is really difficult

Helen tells Klara about how one time she looked out the window and saw Chrissie, the mother, with a child who wasn't Josie, she believes that girl was Sal

Klara agrees to help Rick with study and especially to convince him to accept this opportunity ( he doesn't want to leave alone the mother). Klara is surprised that Miss Helen would choose a path that might lead her alone.

Followinng Rick's instructions, Klara makes the journey to Mr Mc Bain's barn. She sits and waits in the barm for the sun to fill it. She asks the Sun to make Josie better. The next day Rick comes to visit Josie they tease each other and reconcile.

Klara begins to think about destroying the Cootings Machine. She doesn't want to tell anyone about her plan, but conveniently the Mother tells Klara that they'll soon be taking a trip into the city

Later in the week, Rick ann Miss Helen visit the house. Rick tells Klara he's decided he's going to do his best to get into Atlas Brookings.

Two days later Melania Housekeeper tells Klara that the mother won't allow her to come to the city and that they're on the same side when it comes to protecting Josie.

One night, still before the trip, Klara hears Josie crying out in the middle of night. Josie says she isn't in pain but she needs the mother at once. When the mother comes, Josie says she doesn't want to die.
