Youth are more Vulnerable to False Memories than MiddleAged Adults due to Liberal Response Bias
Research Article(2012)
Pourpose
To explor levels of false recognition on a DRM task in late adolescents and early adults.
-False memories are the incorrect recall of information.-Studies related to the vulnerability of false memory formations -No study has compared false memory formation in the critical transition period of adolescence to adulthood
Method
-2 groups, ages 16-23 and 29 to 58 y/o. (transitional stages in life, where it has been seen an increased risk of developing a psychiatric disorder).
Larger cathegories are particioned into smaller.
-Using DRM paradigm, It was explored the effects of age and emotion on false memory formation. In particular, they were interested to see whether youth were more vulnerable than adults to false memory formation.
-The participants were given 3 lists of words, positive, negative, and neutral, each with a team word , related but not present. -Afterwards, participants were asked to identify words that were presented or not presented during the study.
Thank you!
