  • Josephine baker has walked into the palaces of kings and queens and into the houses of presidents, and more. But in America she couldn't even go to a hotel to get a cup of coffee, which made her mad.
  • When Josephine ran away to another country she could go to any place she wanted to. She didn't have to worry about the things she would worry about in America. She felt free since she wasn't afraid of someone telling her to go to the back of the line, like she would in the U.S.
