Since we are in the Great Smoky Mountains. Here we will explain interesting things about the Cherokee Indian Reservation
-History
Cherokee, North American Indians of Iroquoian lineage who constituted one of the largest politically integrated tribes at the time of European colonization of the Americas. Their name is derived from a Creek word meaning “people of different speech”; many prefer to be known as Keetoowah or Tsalagi. They are believed to have numbered some 22,500 individuals in 1650, and they controlled approximately 40,000 square miles (100,000 square km) of the Appalachian Mountains in parts of present-day Georgia, eastern Tennessee, and the western parts of what are now North Carolina and South Carolina.
Beginning around the time of the American Revolutionary War (in the late 1700s), repeated treaty violations by white settlers forced some Cherokee to leave their nation. These dissidents would move across the Mississippi River to the areas that would later become the states of Arkansas and Missouri. Their settlements were established on the St. Francis and White River around 1800. Eventually, due to the large number of Cherokee in these areas, the US government created a reservation located in Arkansas, bordering from the north Arkansas River to the south bank of the White River. River.9 Many of these dissidents became known, such as Chickamauga.
Culture
The social organization of the Cherokees was characterized by being a totally matriarchal nation, in the same way, there was great respect for "Mother Earth" and for each of the living beings that made it up. Even though there was a deep sense of forgiveness and love, they practiced and carried out justice. The economy of this group was based mainly on agriculture, where each of the products that were obtained on the land through their practices on the ground, were used in trade.
What mainly characterizes the custom of the Cherokee Indians is dance. Throughout their history they were determined to have multiple dances, however, one of the main ones was the "Butterfly Dance", which proved to be very powerful and was used for medicinal purposes, in the same way there was the "Dance of the mucus”, which was mainly used to taunt and ridicule any enemy.
Location
In the southeastern United States. Before the 18th century, they were concentrated in their native countries, in towns along the river valleys of what is now southwestern North Carolina, southeastern Tennessee, the western edges of South Carolina, northern Georgia and northeastern Alabama.4 Subsequently, most of the Cherokee were forced to relocate to the Ozark Plateau in Oklahoma. The Cherokee Nation currently resides in Oklahoma Territory and the chief of the tribe, the aforementioned Chuck Hoskin, knows that patience can pay off. His people have waited almost 200 years
