What is it?

what does it propose?

"Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I'll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select – doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief, and, yes, even beggar-man and thief, regardless of his talents, penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations, and race of his ancestors."

Behavior theories suggest that personality is a result of interaction between the individual and the environment. Behavioral theorists study observable and measurable behaviors, rejecting theories that take internal thoughts and feelings into account.

- John B. Watson

B. F. Skinner's theory of behavior

What is it based on?

Skinner's theory is based on operant conditioning, wich means when the organism will encounter a special kind of reinforcing stimulus os simply reinforcement.

- Reinforcement increases a behavior and punishment decreases or ends it.

Skinner's theory of personality can be summarized by the following principles:

02

01

Environmental determinism:suggests that behavior is determined by the environment and not by free will.

Operant conditioning: refers to the process of shaping behavior through reinforcement and punishment.

04

05

Punishment:

involves using negative consequences to reduce the likelihood of a behavior being repeated in the future.

Extinction:

refers to the process of eliminating a behavior by no longer reinforcing it.

03

Reinforcement:

involves rewarding behavior to increase the likelihood of it being repeated in the future.

Albert Bandura

Bandura's social learning theory emphasizes the role of observational learning, or learning through observation and imitation of others. He also emphasized the importance of self-efficacy, or a person's belief in their ability to perform a specific task or achieve a goal.
