Deepika Kurup

1. who is she?

In this video we are going to talk about Deepika Kurup, a 24-year-old woman. She was born on April 12th 1998, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.

2. What does she actually do?

She has studied at Harvard University (2015-2019). Nowadays she attends the Stanford University School of Medicine. Kurup is also CEO and founder of World Water, an enterprise that we will explain later.

When Deepika was younger, she went to India, during the summer. There she saw a lot of people drinking really dirty water and she discovered that nearly 760 million people don’t have access to clean water.

3. How does she make a difference?

In 8th grade she started searching for a solution for the water crisis. Time passed by and she developed a technology based on solar energy that is capable of decontaminating water.

As we talked earlier, Kurup is founder of World Water, an enterprise that focuses on developing her technology in areas with less water, or very polluted water. Therefore, Deepika is not only helping the environment, by reducing water pollution, but is also helping millions of people that now have access to drinkable water.

4. Awards

With this technology, Deepika has won many awards, such as:

Image 7- “United States President’s Environmental Youth Award”, in 2014.

Kurup was part of the “White House Science Fair”, in 2013 and 2016. She was also recognised as one of the “30 Under 30: Energy”, by Forbes. Deepika also participated in two TEDx events.

5. Our own impression on that person

We think that Deepika is very worried about the environment and is also a determined person because she did all the possible things to fight a global problem. She is also very inspiring because she didn’t stop trying until she achieved her goal. We also see Kurup as a lovely person since she cares about others.
