grammar translation method
The Grammar Translation Method (GTM) is a teaching method commonly used to teach grammar with the main characteristics focusing on translation and memorizing verb forms students learn grammatical rules and then apply those rules by translating sentences between the target language and the native language.
At first, this method named Classical Method because of the method was used in teaching Classical languages first, Example Latin and Greek
The use of the Grammar Translation Method (GTM) is effective in introducing language rules to improve their ability to construct accurate sentences so that they have confidence in using English both orally and in writing.

The use of this method is based on several objectives, including to :
- To make students able to read literature written in the target language (the foreign language)
- To enable students to translate native languages into target languages, for example Indonesian into English or English into Indonesian.
- To develop writing and reading skills

- Uses the sentence as the basic unit of teaching
- New Terms are explained in the native language

Ask the students to take down their friends’ conversations in their native language and then translate it into English
Ask the students to take 5 vocabulary words from their favorite song and then translate it into English
Ask students to write 10 verbs from the article assigned to them, and then they should give the synonyms and antonyms
ask the students to memorize the rules, and they should give their sentences as samples.

Students are encouraged to think in the target language
