What is Pokémon?
Pokémon is role-playing game based around building a small team of monsters to battle other monsters in a quest to become the best. Pokémon are divided into types, such as water and fire, each with different strengths. Battles between them can be likened to the simple hand game rock-paper-scissors.

In this session, you will learn the basic information on how to play Pokemon Console Games with ease.
First thing when getting into Pokemon is the types.
This video helps explain the types of Pokemon and how they effect each other in the games (gameboy, ds, switch, etc.).
So starting out learning types can be overwhelming, but the more games you play the more it makes sense! The game also tells you whenever something is SUPER EFFECTIVE or isn't effective at all, or has no effect.
All of the Pokemon types are listed below:
Normal Fire Water Grass Electric Ice Fighting Poison Ground Flying Psychic Bug Rock Ghost Dark Dragon Steel Fairy
Types Continued...
In the Pokemon world, a Pokemon's type is determined by either their elemental abilities (e.g. Fire, Water) or their physical appearance (e.g. Bug, Flying). Each type has its own unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses when battling against other types of Pokemon. For example, Fire-type Pokemon are weak against Water-type Pokemon, while Water-type Pokemon are weak against Electric-types. These matchups also apply to the types of moves, so a Fire-type move like Ember will be effective against a Grass-type Pokemon like Bulbasaur.

Dual Types
Dual-Type Pokemon can have two affiliations, but their moves are still limited to one type. Some Dual-Type Pokemon may gain or lose a type during evolution, except for Cubone, which evolves into a Fire/Ghost-type Alolan Marowak, breaking the usual pattern.

Ideal Team Build
When you're out in the wild in any Pokemon game, you can encounter any type of Pokemon. Each Pokemon Game allows you to have 6 Pokemon per team. So, you should have a team that consists of the most powerful Pokemon from the following types: This set-up should allow you to cover and counter a vast majority of Pokemon types that you encounter in the wild. Any double type Pokemon should be considered the cherry on the top.
- Grass
- Water
- Fire
- Ice
- Fighting
- Ground
Ideal Gym Battle Builds
In every Pokemon game are always 8 gyms that you need to defeat in order to become a Pokemon master. Each gym has a theme or a dominant type. In Pokemon Sword and Shield, the gym types are as follows:
- Grass
- Water
- Fire
- Fighting (Sword) & Ghost (Shield)
- Fairy
- Rock
- Dark
- Dragon
For every gym battle, you should configure your team in a such a way your Pokemon have an edge over the enemy. So if you're fighting in the Grass gym, then your ideal team should be comprised of Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying or Bug-type Pokemon.
Onto battle strategies when battling other Pokemon!
Super Effective
Attacks that are “super effective” (i.e. strong) against a certain type will deal double damage
For example, a ground type move is super effective against an electric type pokemon
Not Very Effective
Not Very Effective refers to a Move that deals less than normal damage to a Pokémon.
If an electric type move hits another electric pokemon, it will deal less damage and not be very effective.
No effect...
If a Pokemon attack type is listed as No Effect Against, its attacks will deal no damage to the specified Pokemon type.
For example, if a normal type move is used against a ghost type pokemon, the ghost type will take no damage.
