Given the passage The Stages of a Beetle’s Life, students will recognize and explain the author's use of text and graphic features by answering 2 out of 3 accurately with text evidence.

Essential Question
Informational texts are meant to inform the reader about a topic. These texts may include text and graphic features that will help the author clarify, support, or add to the information of the text
As a review - the author can use many different types of text features to support their text.
- Titles/Subtitles - help you know what you will be reading about/ or what you will read about in that section.
- Photographs/Illustrations- help support the text the author wrote, but also help you see what something looks like.
- Captions - gives additional information about the photograph or illustration.
- charts/graphs/tables - gives you specific data that may or may not be stated in the text. .
Let's take a look at the front cover...The front cover says a lot.
TITLE: The title may give you an idea about what your text will be about. In this text; T.J. The Siberian Tiger Cub
Photograph: The author placed a photogragraph as well as an illustration to show us what T.J. looked like as a cub.
