THE NIGHT STALKER

"The Night Stalker" is the nickname given to Richard Ramirez, a notorious serial killer and serial rapist who scared California during the mid-80s. . Born on February 29, 1960, in El Paso, Texas, Ramirez was the youngest of five siblings. Raised in a terrible family environment, Ramirez had a violent childhood, full of abuse and poverty.

CHILDHOOD OF RICHARD RAMIREZ

In his childhood, Richard was raised by absent and abusive parents. Especially his father who suffered from anger issues. Richard also admired his cousin, Miguel, who had just returned from the Vietnam War. Miguel was a bad eference, because he too was a violent man, and he told Richard how he abused and tortured Vietnamese in war.

ORIGINS OF THE NIGHT STALKER

Ramirez began his criminal career at the age of 12, when he committed his first burglary. Over the next few years, he continued to commit minor crimes, including theft, robbery, and drug trafficking. In 1984, Ramirez began his series of murders, rapes and robberies that would make him famous.

WHY IS HE CALLED THE NIGHT STALKER

His victims were chosen randomly but were mainly women, but also men and children. Ramirez had a preference for isolated houses, often entering through windows or open doors and attacking his victims by surprise, shooting and beating them. He is called ''the night stalker'' because of his way of sneaking into other people's homes.

HOW DID HE GET ARRESTED?

His capture took place thanks to the testimony of one of his victims, who was able to provide a detailed description of his face. Also, shoe prints left at the crime scene was able to provide decisive evidence to identify Ramirez. He was arrested in 1985. In 1989 he was sentenced to death for his actions, but died in prison in 2013 from kidney disease.
