FERNANDO AMORSOLO
Fernando Amorsolo, who painted rural Filipino landscapes and portraits. He was known as the "Grand Old Man on Philippine Art" and was the country first person to receive recognition as a national artist.
He was hailed for his "pioneering use of impressionistic technique" and "significant not only inthe developement of Phillipine rt but qalso in the formation of Filipino notions of self an identity" in his paintings.

Amorsolo is well known for his lit landscapes, which frequently depicted customs, culture, fiestas, and jobs from the traditional Filipino way of life. His pastoral compositions created "an imagined sense of nationhood in counterpoint to American colonial power" and were fundamental to the creation of Filipino national identity.
Before he retired in the early 1950s, Fernando Amorsolo worked as a director at the school of Fine Arts, an instructor, a draftsman for the Public Works, the chief artist for the Pacific Commercial Company, an illustratos for children's book and magazines, and an instructor throughout his intire career.
