Five Principles in material development
Advantages and Disdavantages authentic and non - authentic materials
Let's review some principles in material design and understand they influence the teaching process.
It is important to talk about the weakness and streghts when using materials inside the EFL classroom.
What are authentic and non - authentic materials?
Based on Fabrina's reflection about the use of authentic and non - authentic materials inside EFL classrooms we will provide some examples of how both of them work .
Five Principles in Material Development
In his document Maley reviews different principles proposed by scholars and material designers that address and give essential guidelines regarding the material design process. I consider the following principles as a foundation of this process since they address issues, i have experienced as a language learner, gap between content/ language features and real life - use, non - engaging topics, traditional ways to teach language structure.
Ellis (2005): Materials should focus on the development of language meaning.
Nation (1996): Language courses should provide tools for students to become independent. (How to learn, monitor and reflect about their own learning process)
Nation (1996): Materials should be ordered, presented and assessed taking into account the students needs, teaching conditions, time, and resources available.
Necesitamos interactuar unos con otros. Aprendemos de forma colaborativa.
Contamos miles y miles de historias. ⅔ de nuestras conversaciones son historias.

Maley (2014): Frame Content used should be interesting by itself.
Jan Bell and Roger Gower (2011): Grammar should be taught inductively.
What are authentic and non - authentic materials?
Based on Febrina (2017), authentic materials are not designed for non - English speakers, they are designed for native speakers daily life. These materials present the target language in context and forms as real world situations. Non - authentic materials are also known as real - life materials or genuine materials.
