The islands of the Malta archipelago were already inhabited in the Neolithic, as revealed by the numerous remains found during archaeological excavations. Among the treasures of the past we remember the temples of Tarxien, Gigantjia and Hagar Qim, as well as the hypogeum of Saflieni. On 1 May 2004 Malta joined the European Union and since 2008 the currency in circulation is the Euro.
