Early years

Benjamin Franklin

• Born into a family of modest means, he only had 2 years of formal education
• He has worked as a printer since he was 12
•At the age of 17 he ran away to Philadelphia

1706, Boston, Massachusetts1790, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

•In 1726 he became the owner of the 'Pennsylvania Gazette'

Starting in the 1730s, he helped establish a number of community organizations in Philadelphia:

-the first fire company

-the University of Pennsylvania

-a volunteer militia

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

He went to London as a representative of the Pennsylvania Assembly and testimoned against the Stamp Act
In 1776 he was part of the 5-member commitee that drafted the Declaration of Indipendence

He was sent to France where he helped to draft the Treaty of Paris (1783)

In 1787 he was a Pennsylvania delegate in the Constitutional Convention

JOHN ADAMS

. Supporter of the protests of the colonies against the English crown

. Family of wealthy english settlers

. Took part in a protest against the Stamp Act in 1765

. Teacher, excellent public speaker and lawyer

. Adams was focused on improving people and political rights of the colonies.

. He wrote several essays supporting his ideas and theories.

. 4th July 1776: the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

. Importance of the rights of the colonists (not slaves) that were not respected by the motherland.

. Adams suggested Thomas Jefferson as the writer of the Declaration!

. Vice-president of George Washington . Joined the Federalist party of Hamilton

. He died on the 4th July 1826, the 50th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.

ROGER SHERMAN'S life

Sherman was born on 19th of April 1721, in Newton, Massachusetts, died July 23h of 1793 in New Haven, Connecticut

-He was one of the memebers of the Five -He was the only person to have signed all four of the most significant documents in our nation's early history

-He won memebership on the committees that drafted the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation -He was elected mayor of New Haven

-He began life as a surveyor and a cordwainer-He spent the last 30 years of his life devoted to public service -He rose from justice of the peace and county judge to an associate judge of the Connecticut Superior Court -He was a longtime and influential member of the Continental Congress

ROGER'S IDEAS

-His proposal was to give all states equal representation in the senate paved the way for the agreement between the former colonies.

JEFFERSON'S IDEologies

He supported Enlightenment and liberal ideas. He also foundad the Virginia University, in his quest to reinvent higher education, Jefferson sought to cultivate an environment in wich students could live and learn from one another

He was the founder, together with James Madison of the Republican Democratic partnership of 1792

JEFFERSON'S POLITICAL CAREER

1785-1789

1779-1781

He was sent as a diplomant to Paris, so he was not able to participate to the American Constitution.

He was appointed governor of Virginia by George Washington

4th of March 1801-1809

After his second term, he decided that he wanted to spend some time with his family, so he retired from the political life.

Jefferson was declered President and he had to deal with several attempts of obscruction by the federalists.Jefferson decided to retire from politics, believing that it was dangerous to centralize the power for too long in the hands of a man.
