The aviation industry has a significant impact on the environment. These impacts are done in many different ways. Some ways being ; Green house gases, Air pollution, Noise pollution, water pollution and waste generation. Here is the reasoning behind the impact: Aviation contributes to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, including carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and methane (CH4). These gases trap heat in the atmosphere, causing global warming and climate change. Aircraft engines produce emissions that contribute to air pollution, including nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and sulfur dioxide. These pollutants can harm human health and contribute to acid rain and smog. Aircraft noise can have a significant impact on communities living near airports, causing annoyance, sleep disturbance, and stress. De-icing and anti-icing fluids used on aircraft can contain harmful chemicals that can contaminate water sources. The aviation industry generates a significant amount of waste, including food waste, packaging, and hazardous waste from maintenance activities. To reduce the effect the industry is working towards reducing emissions by different ways. Airbus and Embraer are working towards of creating net zero aircraft, Airlines in general are using their more efficient flying aircraft, Using more advanced technologies in order to create better flight routes to reduce emissions as well as delays.
Describe methods of measuring pollution in and around the airport -P2-
There are several methods used to measure pollution in and around airports. some of these methods are air quality monitoring, noise monitoring, emission monitoring and water quality monitoring. Air quality monitoring measures levels of pollutants in the air, including nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter. It is done using stationary monitoring stations placed around the airport or by using mobile monitoring vehicles that drive around the airport area. Noise pollution can also be a significant problem around airports. Noise monitoring is done using sound level meters, which measure the sound pressure level at a given location. This helps to identify areas where noise pollution is most severe. Emissions monitoring measures the amount of pollutants emitted by airport operations such as aircraft, ground support equipment, and vehicles. This is done using portable emissions monitoring systems that measure exhaust emissions in real-time. Water Quality Monitoring: Runoff from airport surfaces, such as runways, taxiways, and parking lots, can contain pollutants that can enter nearby water bodies. Water quality monitoring measures the levels of pollutants in surface water and groundwater around the airport. We have

Aircraft noise is intermittent in nature and exposure to it during the night may result in sleep disturbance. Noise-induced sleep disturbance refers to awakenings, changes to sleep structure such as changes to sleep stages, arousals in heart rate, and body movements Aviation-related noise pollution can be controlled and reduced through several methods, which can be broadly categorized as operational, technological, and regulatory approaches. Starting off with operational approaches which is done by changing the way the aircraft operates to reduce noice emissions. Some ways which this is done by changing the take off and landing routes, Using lower thrust when taking off and landing to reduce noise, Using more gradual descents during landings. All of these ideas are able to to reduce noise in order to help the earth as well as peoples health factors. The next key way in order to reduce noise pollution is by using technological approaches. These involve using new technology in order to reduce noise pollution. First major things is that Aircraft manufacturers are working towards to make quieter engines, This would change the aviation noise pollution by a whole mile. Another way is by using technology to create better aerodynamics. This would help reduce noise pollution as less drag would be created, which means it would create less noise. Another way for older aircrafts is by using hush kits which would help create less noise Finally another way is by regulatory approaches. These involve setting noise standards and regulations to limit noise emissions. For example airports are able to implement noise restrictions on aircraft operations, such as curfews at nighttime as people would be trying to sleep and not be disturbed by planes. Governments are also able to set noise standards which aircraft must meet in order to be certified and Airports are also able to help by monitoring noise in surrounding communities in order to ensure compliance with noise regulations. Overall, a combination of these approaches can be used to control and reduce aviation-related noise pollution, with the most effective approach depending on the specific circumstances and location of the airport.

Emissions from aviation are a significant contributor to climate change. Airplanes burn fossil fuel which not only releases CO2 emissions but also has strong warming non-CO2 effects due to nitrogen oxides (NOx), vapour trails and cloud formation triggered by the altitude at which aircraft operate. Aviation-related atmospheric pollution can be controlled and reduced through several methods, which can be broadly categorised as operational, technological, and regulatory approaches. Starting off with operational approaches, which involves changing the way aircraft are operated to reduce atmospheric pollution. This can be done by Using more gradual descents and climbs during flights to reduce fuel burn and emissions, Reducing the time that aircraft spend idling on the ground can reduce fuel burn and emissions, Using ground power units to provide electricity to aircraft while on the ground, rather than running the aircraft's engines, can reduce emissions. All of these operational methods are able to help produce less pollution to help our planet. Another way which the aviation industry tries to reduce pollution is by using technological approaches. These involve using new technologies to reduce atmospheric pollution. Some of the ways which this is done by; Aircraft manufacturers are developing new engines with more efficient combustion and reduced emissions, Using alternative fuels, such as biofuels or synthetic fuels, can reduce emissions compared to traditional jet fuel, The development of electric aircraft, which have no direct emissions, could significantly reduce atmospheric pollution in the future. Finally another way which the aviation industry tries to reduce pollution is by using regulatory approaches. These involve setting emissions standards and regulations to limit atmospheric pollution. This can be done in a few ways such as the following; Governments can set emissions standards that aircraft must meet in order to be certified to operate, Implementing a carbon pricing mechanism, such as a carbon tax or cap-and-trade system, can incentivize airlines to reduce emissions, International agreements, such as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), can establish global emissions reduction targets and mechanisms for achieving them.

Aviation-related surface water pollution can occur due to various reasons, such as fuel and oil spills, deicing fluids, wastewater discharge, and other chemical contaminants from airport operations.To control and reduce this pollution, several methods can be implemented:
- Stormwater Management: Implementing best management practices (BMPs) for stormwater management can help prevent pollution. Examples of BMPs include using permeable pavement, constructing swales, and using sediment basins.
- Spill Prevention and Response: Training airport staff on spill prevention and response procedures can help minimize the potential for fuel and oil spills. This includes establishing spill response teams and ensuring that proper equipment and materials are available to quickly contain and clean up any spills.
- Deicing Fluid Management: Deicing fluids can contain chemicals that can harm the environment. Implementing deicing fluid management strategies such as collecting and treating the used fluids can prevent the release of harmful chemicals into surface water.
