That's a lot of people if you think about it! Since the population was around 2 - 2.5 million people it killed around 850,000 - 1.1 million people!
This disease was so devastating and dangerous, as it swept across the globe faster than ever, killing anyone it found in its tracks!
Be glad that it didn't kill this many people! If it had killed more than 65% then the people left would have had a slight chance of going extinct!

What were Medieval Villages like?
In villages in England, it was very unfair for most people. Many were poor and couldn't afford houses whereas there were very few lords who owned massive amounts of land and got paid well. In the Middle Ages, most of the population lived in the countryside, and 85% of the population were peasants. Peasants worked on the land for food, fuel, wool and other resources.
Lords and Barons were higher towards the top of the Feudal System. This meant they got a lot of money!
With the Feudal System in place, it was a lot harder for peasants to earn money.
Peasants worked long and hard on their land and barely got any pay.
If you didn't obey your Lord's orders, you would most likely be banished, imprisoned or even executed!
Lords earned up to 55% more than peasants - peasants also had to pay the lords tax!
20% Lived on the street
5% Lived in large houses
This graph shows just how many people were poor in England at the time. Thankfully, the Feudal system was abolished long ago, so we don't have to worry!
What houses did people live in?
5%
Suprisingly only 5% of people lived in large houses. This was because most people in England were peasants and could not afford anything bigger.
30% Lived in small houses
10% Of people owned 2 floors
35% Lived with 8 or more people
So...
Overall, Medieval Villages were quite tough to live and work in if you were a peasant, as you had to pay tax, work extremely hard for long, gruesome hours and get barely any pay whatsoever. Count yourself lucky you're alive now and not back then!

Features of a Church
In churches there were lots of religious relics and books that were kept inside small libraries. People came to church quite often, some coming almost every day! They took time to read holy books, say prayers and sing hymns.
Pictures of baby Jesus on stained glass were common
The importance of Church
How?
When?
Why?
People came to Church quite often because they thought that if they didn't, they wouldn't be able to go to heaven. Sunday mornings were the times when more people went to church.
Church was so important because people believed in God. They thought that if they went to church, they would go to heaven. People came to talk to others about their problems.
People prayed because they thought they would be able to talk to God in this way. There were churches in most villages and they were generally in the centre, to show their importance.
