Gamma rays and what they are used for:Gamma rays are used in medical imaging and are also used to treat cancer. (by raidotherapy) Gamma ray also come in handy while sterilizing things such as medical equiptment and food! Gamma rays have a unique ability to kill microoganisms with out causing other damage. Thats why they are often used in hospitals. But what is a gamma ray? :A gamma ray is a electromagnetic radiation-waves that carry energy just like visible light! A single gamma ray photon i more energetic than a milion visibe photons combind.So gamma rays are a strong source of ionizing radiation powerfull enough go brake apart atomic bonds! Damage:Gamma rays an cause Radiation Damage! The ionizing radiations gamma ray have an cause DNA distruction that cause cancer. Well is'nt that ironic?Fortunatley the earth Ozone layer filters out theas harmfull rays befort they can harm us. What causes gamma rays and how is it deteted ?: Gamma rays are caused by radioactive decay. EG nutron star exploding or supernova . Gamma-ray wavelengths are so short that they can pass through the space within the atoms of a detector. Gamma-ray detectors typically contain densely packed crystal blocks. As gamma rays pass through, they collide with electrons in the crystal. This process is called Compton scattering, wherein a gamma ray strikes an electron and loses energy, similar to what happens when a cue ball strikes an eight ball. These collisions create charged particles that can be detected by the sensor. Properties of Gamma rays: Gamma rays have short wave lenths and have no mass and no charge.GRB or gamma ray are know to stay focosedmuch longer compared to other cosmi explosions.

Ifrared: infrared lies just beyond red in the visible light sector on the EM spectrum. Infrared radiation has a wavelength from about 800nm to 1mm and emitted particularly by heated objects. But what is ifrared ? : Ifrared light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum. People encounter infrared daily although human eyes can't see it it can be detected as heat.
