Intro

1.

Every day, we are losing animal species that may never be seen again. The result is unbalanced ecosystems, less genetic diversity and an overall loss for the planet in terms of biodiversity. Below, we talk about some animals that are on the verge of extinction.

Lions

2.

The lion is one of the species that is part of the IUCN Red List.In Africa, illegal hunting and the use of lion bones for traditional medicine are largely responsible for the threat of extinction facing this feline. But the illegal pursuit of certain animals and the introduction of alien species – that is, those that are not native to the place in question – are responsible for 85% of cases of threat to the species, as explained by the IUCN.

3. elephants

The Asian elephant is a species considered in danger of extinction, according to the IUCN classification. It has suffered greatly from the destruction of its habitat as well as illegal hunting for the ivory trade. Smaller than African elephants, this species is exploited for tourism and transportation purposes. It is important to note that this elephant, in the Hindu religion, is associated with the figure of Ganesha, God of wisdom.

4. Rhino

The black rhino is one of the most endangered animals in the world. In 1960, it is estimated that there were around 65,000 black rhinos in Africa. Today, only about 5,000 remain. This is mainly due to illegal hunting, as the horns of these animals are highly valued on the black market.

5.Extinct animals:

Great Auk

Sardinian Pika

Tasmanian Tiger

New Zealand Quail

Cape Lion

Caspian Tiger

6.Girrafe

With a 40% decline over the past thirty years, giraffes have entered the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Human Resources (IUCN) Red List as an endangered species. In 1985 there were 163 thousand animals, while in 2015 97.5 thousand were registered.

7. ZEBRA

The Grévy zebra is a species that is classified as endangered. According to IUCN data, it is estimated that the population of this animal is less than 2400 individuals. The main threat to its extinction is related to habitat loss and the reduction of essential resources for life, such as water and food.

10. DATA

Currently, according to the IUCN more than 26,500 species are threatened with extinction. It is important to emphasize that according to research, approximately are threatened in the world: 40% of amphibians 25% of mammals 14% of the birds 31% sharks and rays 27% of crustaceans

Classification

To classify the level of extinction risk, the IUCN created the Red List of Threatened Species (Red List).

12.Conclusion

It is important to remember that protecting these species means protecting all of our biodiversity. We can only preserve our ecosystems by taking care of the animals that are in their hearts. By doing our part to combat poaching, pollution and deforestation, we can help ensure these precious animals continue to live and thrive on our planet.

Thank you!
