Introduction
You have one hour to 'escape critical care'...To be successful you will need to follow the clues and challenges. Failure to do so may result in being trapped on level 6 forever...
Setting the scene
Saturday night shift - St Elsewhere Hospital
Welcome to the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit of St Elswehere Hospital. It is Saturday night and you all commenced nightshift at 1900hrs. You have a busy night ahead in both departments. I hope you all have the knowledge and skills to survive a Saturday night at St Elsewhere...
+ info
The shift has been busy so far; you and your colleagues have already provided care for two patients with suspected influenza, one patient experiencing a severe asthma attack that has now been transferred to ICU, a woman experiencing a myocardial infarction who has now been handed over to the Cath lab staff, a likely concussion awaiting neuro review and a gentleman from a nursing home with abdominal pain and symptoms of constipation. There has been a brief lull in triage and your clinical NUM has suggested you take your tea break because you have a long shift still ahead. In the break room, you grab a coffee and find a few colleagues working on a crossword puzzle. While you and your colleagues do not typically do crossword puzzles, this crossword is called “Nightshift in the ED”. For a laugh, you and your colleagues work together on solving the puzzle. You all know this will be a breeze… (No more than 4 of you are in the break room at a time...please work in teams of 4).
