Ed Geins childhood
Ed Gein was Born on August 27, 1906 in La Crosse County, Wisconsin.Ed gains parents were Augista and George Gein. He was Raised with his brother (Henry) in a strict christian household. His father was an alcoholic therefore making Augusta the dominant parent of their family. Augusta isolated the boys from the outside world. Gein was presented with very little social interaction and was constantly told that women, Sex, drinking were bad. She constantly verbally abused her yet from a young age Ed seemed to idolize his mother.
Ed Geins childhood
His brother Henry mysteriously died in 1944 in a fire near the family’s farm and although Ed was the one who reported his bother missing to the police, he was able to lead police directly to where henry’s body was. The death was ruled an accident although there were bruises on henry’s head that indicated otherwise. Gein mother passed away in 1945 leaving Ed alone in the farm. This caused him to become a hermit. Its said that Gein tried to preserve his mother’s memory by sealing off the places his mother spent the most time in.
Types of crimes committed
Ed Gein was know for his grisly fascination with human anatomy. He kept bones, body parts, and the skin of his victims as trophies and often created items with what he could from the human body. HE was known for making skin suits and gloves of the bodies he acquired from his victims and graves. He is believed to have dug up at least 10 bodies from local graves and was convicted of killing 2 people but it is persumed that he did have more victims.
How many Casualties?
Where?
Ed Geins Crimes where commited on his family's farm in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Where he lived alone after the death of his mother in 1945. The bodies he dug out are said to be from local graves.
Ed Gein was only convicted of murdering 2 women who resembled his mother:Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden. However, it is believed that there were more. Along with the bodies of the two women, it is persumed that he dug up around 10 bodies from local graves and also dug up his mother.
Motive
Gein Admitted to killing the two women because they resembled his mother. After the death of his mother he became Schizophrenic and this spiraled caused him to want a sex change,he made several body suits from his victims. Furthermore, some detectives believe he developed a madonna-whore complex from his admiration yet hatred towards his mother.

Psychological Theory
Ed Gein was diagnosed with schizophrenia and personality disorder. He was also socially isolated by his mother causing him to develop his obbession with his mother and eventually caused the psychotic break that led to his crimes.
How?
Pattern?
He shot both of his victims with a .22 caliber riffle after this he would skin the victims to make women suits.
The two women he killed both resembled his mother and he visited the grave yard systematically to dig up bodies.
The end
Gein was caught by the police in 1957 shortly after the disappearance of Bernice Worden. He was the last person that was seen with her and upon visiting his home her body was found and other human remains were found on his farm.
1957
"She isn't missing. She's at the farm right now."
-Ed gein
Punishment
In late 1957 he was deemed unfit for trial and was confined to several psychiatric hospitals. Later on in 1968 he was tried for one murder due to Financial reasons and was found guilty however he was later deemed insane at the time of the crime and was sent to a mental hospital where he stayed until he died in 1984.
Prevention
It's hard to say how a situation like Ed Geins could be prevented. I think mental health should be spoken about more often to children and made a less taboo subject. After my research I believe Ed Gein's mental illness was a product of nurture and his unresolved dilemma with his mother hence physchotic breaks after his mothers death.
