1. What is all about
2. What to do
3. What not to do
4. Useful grammar to score high marks
5. Golden Rules
What is all about?
-basic questions -familiar topics e.g.: family, friends, holiday, habits, sports, plans
- name and marksheets- where are you from? -part 1 QUESTION/S- it depends on your production
DO
-keep your 'where are you from' question short-be natural, but you can lie: no one cares -produce enough language to be assessed -stay on topic (relate to the question) -use linkers
more than present simple
present perfect
I've always loved sports
used to+ infinitive
when I was young I used to practice many sports, but now I prefer playing videogames
inversion
with negative adverbs of frequency
if only/ I wish + simple past
If only I had more time, i would go to the gym more often
DON'T
-use lists: show you know linking expressions-use rude language: if it happens, show you realized it and apologize! -use present simple only: your grammar is more flexible than that.
golden rules
1. stay on topic
4. avoid the present simple
2. extend your answer
5. stay formal with the examiner
3. avoid using lists
get it?!
part 2
2. What to do
3. What not to do
4. Useful grammar to score high marks
5. Golden Rules
What is all about?
-interact (2 minutes)-make a decision (1 min)
Exchanging ideas, expressing and justifying opinions, agreeing and/or disagreeing, suggesting, speculating, evaluating, reaching a decision through negotiation, etc.
Conversation with the other candidate. -The examiner gives you some material and a task to do. - You have a few seconds to read the 5 prompts -You have to talk with the other candidate -Make a decision
DON'T
-be too personal-be /look bored: your pronunciation will suffer - say 'I agree/ disagree' - forget body language
DO
- turn toward your partner- eye contact - ask 'should I go first or would you like to?' -keep it general: you can add some personal experience, but here it's not about you... -listen actively (nod or shake head for instance) -interact -link what you say to what your partner has just said -rephrase your partner's words -negotiate the answer -expand your partner answer if he/she is in trouble
