WWTBAM: ATTENTION CURVE
TIME PERCEPTION:
Despite this video involving only the last question of the quiz show, it lasts 40 minutes due to some features employed to lead the contestant to the answer, while keeping the audience stuck to the screen. In particular, the spectator's attention is drawn through: - LOUD THINKING: the contestant exposes her reasoning process and discusses it with the host. - CONSTANT INTERACTION BETWEEN THE HOST AND THE AUDIENCE: Scotti always addresses the audience (both in the studio and at home) and creates suspence, even before the advertisment break. - INTERACTION BETWEEN THE HOST AND THE CONTESTANT: the host obviously leads, but they often divagate from the main topic of the quiz. Scotti digs in the woman's private life as well. He "provokes" her and dares her to give an answer. Sometimes while she's thinking, he is silent; sometimes he talks and helps her getting to a point. These features allow the viewer at home to be completely immersed, creating uncertainty on whether the contestant will answer or give up on the 500-million prize. during the first half the attention is quite stable, wherease tension increases at 23:00:00. As the game is about to end, the host becomes less "patient" and kindly starts pressing the contestant to give him her answer. At the end, when he unveils the correct answer, the engagement reaches its peak. te
