WHAT IS GESTURE?

  • Gestures are an important aspects of human interaction, both interpersonally and in the context of man- machine interfaces
  • It is a non-verbal communication in which visible body communicates particular message
  • Gestures include movement of the hands, face, or other parts of the body

PROBLEM DEFINITION

“Hand Gesture Recognition Using Camera” is based on concept of Image processing. In recent year there is lot of research on gesture recognition. We focus on reducing cost and improve robustness of the proposed system using simple web camera.

A BASIC WORKING OF THE GESTURE RECOGNITION SYSTEM

User: Inputs a gesture

Sensor: Detects the gesture, deduces it into signals and passes to the device

Performs the task as conveyed by the gesture and gives the output

OBJECTIVES

  • Develop reliable automatic gesture recognition system
  • A software that can track hand movement
  • Adaptive system to adapt to condition or user over time
  • Develop a low cost assistive software

  • Enhance the recognition capability for various lighting condition

  • Applying gesture recognition for accessing internet application
  • Providing editing mechanism by using gestures

CONCLUSION

  • Gesture recognition is very challenging and interesting task in terms of accuracy and usefulness in computer vision
  • Rotation, illumination change, background variation, and pose variation of hand makes the problem more challenging
  • Most important advantage is that we can efficiently interact with the application from a distance without any physical restriction
  • We have proposed an algorithm for recognizing the hand gestures in a constant background and good lighting conditions.
