Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT)

WHAT?

TYPES of tasks

Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) suggests the use of tasks as a major teaching element in the language classroom as they are believed to provide more meaningful contexts for activating language acquisition procedures and enhancing L2 learning. Consequently, it can be said that the theory of TBLT is not based on a theory of language structure, but a theory of language learning. Richards and Rodgers (2001: 228) explain this saying ‘tasks are believed to foster processes of negotiation, modification, rephrasing, and experimentation that are at the heart of second language learning.’

Willis (1996) proposes 6 types of tasks and highlights the importance of cooperation skills and teamwork to achieve the goals of the tasks used.**click to see the types

How to plan a task-based grammar lesson

Unlike traditional grammar classes or PPP lessons, in TBL, the focused grammar practice comes at the end of the lesson as the emphasis is on language fluency rather than accuracy which comes later.*click to see the 6 steps *
