British Triumph

March 15th, 1781 the battle of Guilford Courthouse had began in Greensboro NC between the Americans and the British. Overall resulting in a British tactical victory after the Americans had retreated.

  • The battle lasted almost 2 hours before the Americans were ordered to retreat
  • American militia: 4,500
  • British soldiers: 1,900
  • 94 killed, 211 wounded, 1,046 missing in action
  • 93 killed, 408 wounded, 25 missing or captured

The British victory was called a Pyrrhic victory, which means the British, even though they won, lost so many soldiers in the battle it made them lose the war.
