BIRTH AND DEATH (1797-1858)
Ida Laura Reyer was born on October 14, 1797 in Vienna and died on October 27, 1858.
During Pfeiffer's passage from the capital of Antananarivo to the coastal port of departure, she had unfortunately contracted a disease (likely malaria) and never fully recovered. She suffered through spells of fever on Mauritius.

-Ida Laura Pfeiffer née Reyer, was an Austrian explorer, travel writer, and ethnographer.
-She was one of the first female travelers, whose bestselling journals were translated into seven languages.
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
She is also credited as the World’s First Solo Female Travel Writer. She traveled through Southeast Asia, the Americas, Middle East, and Africa, including two trips around the world from 1846 to 1855. She was a member of both the Berlin and Paris geographical societies and one of the first female travelers to have their journals translated into seven languages.Her father allowed her to receive the same education as her brothers, however, following his death in 1806, her mother tried to push her towards, what she considered more appropriate pastimes, like piano and knitting lessons.
When Pfeiffer was 22 years old, she was married, against her wishes, to Dr. Mark Anton Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer had two sons, one in 1821 and one is 1824. Once both of her sons had employment, she embarked on her world travels at the age of 45.
WHY IS SHE IMPORTANT? WHY WE SHOULD REMEMBER HER?
With his adventurous spirit he traveled between the snow and the desert, jungles, rivers and mountains, mixing with ambassadors, kings, sheikhs, thieves, cannibals and he survived all of them. He never stopped traveling until his death, 17 years after the start of his adventures. Unlike other travelers, Ida traveled with her clothes on, staying in houses, inns, convents, or wherever they made room for her. He traveled long distances on horseback or camel, traveled with little luggage, and ate just and necessary, which allowed him to have close contact with the customs of each town and to be able to publish his newspapers, which would become international best sellers that allowed him to finance your travels. She traveled the world twice and became a symbol of bravery and strength.
