FAREWELL ADDRESS

G. Washington's "Farewell letter" to the nation was published in a Philadelphian newspaper in 1796. At that time Philadephia was the capital of the nation. As his second four-year term office was winding down, Washington used the press to tell the America people he would not be seeking a third term as president. Washington's self imposed two-term limit set an important precedent for all future presidents, in fact the 22nd Amendment of the Costitution made it mandatory in 1951. The document went viral and reprinted in many other publications. It was read out-loud in pubs, post offices and public streets. Read a part of the letter and answer the questions.
