Working Memory is Limited

True knowledge—combinations of elements beyond rote facts—is built of schemas. Schemas are the cognitive structures that make up our knowledge base.

True Knowledge is Built of Schemas

As learners build schemas, they are able to more efficiently use working memory in a given learning area. Slow and clumsy becomes smooth and effortless.

New information must first be processed by working memory before schema acquisition and long memory can develop.
