  • There were thousands of people crammed into every hotel, inn, and boarding house from all over the world.
  • · The greatest attraction of this exposition was the Eiffel Tower, 984 feet high, which was built by Alexander Eiffel, celebrated French engineer

Three Filipino Societies Rizal Founded

  • March 19 1889 - Rizal assembled his paisanos into a society called Kidlat Club when he landed in Paris from London.
  • Kidlat Club Members :
  • Rizal created it only to facilitate the gathering of young Filipinos in the capital of France so they may enjoy their stay while the city hosted the Universal Exhibition.

Rizal was enchanted by the dignified and proud bearing of the American Indians in a Buffalo Bull show Indios Bravos (Brave Indians) -in place of the transient Kidlat Club used the sword and gun with great vigor, and Rizal taught them judo, an Asian martial style that he had mastered in Japan.

Three Filipino Societies Rizal Founded

RDLM (Redencion de los Malayos)

  • Sociedad R.D.L.M. (R.D.L.M Society)- a mysterious society founded by Rizal in Paris during the Universal Exposition of 1889.
  • Only a few of Rizal’s trusted friends became members of the RDLM, namely, Gregorio del Pilar, Mariano Ponce, Baldomero Roxas, and Father Jose Maria Changco (Filipino priest).

Annotated Edition of Morga Published

  • Rizal's outstanding achievement in Paris was the publication of his annotated edition of Morga's Sucesos in 1890, which he wrote in the British Museum.
  • It was printed by Garnier Freres
  • The prologue was written by Professor Blumentritt
  • The new edition of Morga was dedicated to the Filipino people so that they would know of their glorious past
  • The title of Rizal's annotated edition of Morga reads "Paris, Liberia de Garnier Hermanos, 1890"

  • They had Fried chicken, Rice, and Vegetables as their dinner
  • It was Rizal's last christmas dinner in Paris
  • Rizal went to London after New Year's, the purpose of his visit was unknown
  • There were two theoretical reasons, one was to check up his annotated edition of Morga with the original copy in the British Museum, and the other one being to see Gertrude Beckett for the last time.
  • Rizal went back to Paris in the Middle of January 1890
