EARLY LIFE

• She was an italian serial killer;

• She was born in in 1894 in Avellino;

• She suffered from epilepsy;

• She got into relationships with older men;

• Her mother was incredibely abusive;

• She tempted suicide twice;

• She got married in 1917 to Raffaele Pansardi;

• She got cursed by the mother;

• She owned a shop;

• She had 17 pregnancies and lost three of her babies;

• She was wildly protective to the four survivors;

• Cianciulli's mother cursed her daughter

THE MURDERS

• From 1939 to 1940 the three women that Leonarda invited to her house mysteriously disappeared

• The women had all been killed by Leonarda and it was she herself who confessed it

• Cianciulli said that she made the body of the first woman disappear by saponification

• She had literally devoured the other two.

• She made soaps and pastries out of his victims' bodies and then distributed them among his neighbors.

She had killed the women, destroyed the bodies by boiling them in a large pot full of caustic soda brought to 300 degrees, created bars of soap with rock alum and Greek pitch, dispersed the remains in the cesspool and preserved the blood to make it take root in the oven and mixed with milk and chocolate to make biscuits

VICTIM

ERMELINDA FAUSTINA SETTI

• An unmarried middle-aged woman who was looking for a husband.

• Suitable partner for her in Pula.

• Cianciulli killed her with an axe, threw her body into a cupboard and cut it into nine pieces.

• As for the blood in the basin, she let it coagulate before drying it in the oven, grinding it and kneading it with flour, sugar, chocolate, milk, eggs and margarine to make many pastries.

• Cianciulli received about 30,000 lira from the death.

VICTIM

VIRGINIA CACIOPPO

• A former soprano who is said to have sung at "La Scala", Milan

• A job in Florence as secretary to a mysterious Florentine impresario

• She was killed with an axe on 30 September 1940.

• Cianciulli received 50,000 lire and assorted jewellery from the death.

VICTIM

FRANCESCA CLEMENTINA SOAVI

• She was a middle-aged woman who had been promised better prospects than she had at the time.

• A job at a school for girls in Piacenza.

• She drank the drugged wine and she was killed with an axe on 5 September 1940.

• Cianciulli received 3,000 lire from the death.

THE TRIAL AND DEATH

• On 12 June 1946 the trial opened in Reggio Emilia. The prosecution claimed that Leonardo had acted out of pure greed for the money of her three victims.

• On 20 July 1946, Cianciulli was found guilty of the three murders.

• Sentenced to hospitalization for at least three years in a criminal asylum and thirty years' imprisonment.

• She died after twenty-four years, on October 15, 1970, in the asylum of Pozzuoli, at the age of 77, from cerebral apoplexy.
