Vision of time

Salvador Dalí

The Persistence of Memory (Salvador Dalí)

384 - 322 av. J.-C.

Aristotle

(Aristotle. Physics. Collected works in 4 vols. T. 3. M. 1981. IV, 11, 218 b, 20-30)

When there is no change in our thinking or when we do not notice the change, it will not seem to us that time has passed, just like those fabulous people who sleep in Sardinia next to the heroes when they wake up: they will connect the old "now" with the next and make it one, eliminating the intermediate [time] due to insensitivity. And so, if "now" were not different every time, but identical and single, there would be no time; in the same way, when "now" becomes different without us noticing, it does not seem to us that there was time in between. Time is not called fast and slow, but big and small, long and short. Since it is continuous, it is long and short, because it is a number - large and small, and neither fast nor slow; for none of the numbers used for counting can be both fast and slow.
