Originally, the Parthenon's white marble columns and inner walls supported bands of brightly painted low relief sculpture.
THE 92 METOPES
The exterior Doric frieze included 92 carved metopes with scenes of victory. On the south side, they depicted the fight between half-human centaurs and a legendary Greek tribe known as the Lapiths.
