Even though most time should be spent being productive don't forget to make time in your schedule to do things that bring you joy or help you relax. Mental health is extremely important for any student.
Making a schedule is arguably the most important skills of an engineering student. Making a schedule keeps you on track, helps you prioritize, and stops you from "over booking" yourself [1]. 
Prioritizing assignments and projects is the first step towards being a successful engineering student. Choosing to complete the most difficult assignmenys first might be a great way to prioritize [1].

Many engineering students are takin 5-6 courses including labs that take up a big chunk of time.This is why time management is one of the most important skills an engineering major can have.
