The Vikings started to stay instead of raiding and leaving.

AD 865 a Viking army invaded Britain.

Parts of Britain were controlled by the Vikings.

Some of the Vikings liked the conditions in Britain and settled.

Alfred of Wessex continued to fight the Vikings and regain land.

In parts of the country, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings lived side by side peacefully.

In 793, the Vikings raided Lindisfarne to steal valuable items. The Vikings were pagan, so they did not think the monastery was sacred

The consequences of this event were the Vikings returned to raid monasteries many times over the following years and the Anglo-Saxons lived in fear.
