PRESENTATION

Summary

In maze runner a boy named Thomas wakes up on an elevator and can only remember his name. He is welcomed into the glade by 50 other teenage boys. He quickly finds out that beyond the 4 stone walls, is a maze and the only way to get out is going through the maze. They can't escape at night because of monsters called grievers. Only a few selected boys can be runners in the maze. Thomas thinks he can do it so he goes on his journey and ends up being in a lot of danger but he saves the boys.

Theme

I think a theme in my book is sacrifice. In The Maze Runner, many characters risk their lives for the sake of saving those around them in various acts of self-sacrifice. Thomas risks his own life, entering into the Maze to save Alby and Minho. In contrast to Thomas’s act of bravery, Minho leaves behind the two of them in order to save his own life.

Characterization

A character trait of my main character, Thomas, is that he is intelligent, athletic, and determined. As soon as he comes into the glade he finds ways to solve problems and do what he thinks is best even if others dont agree with him.

Plot

An important part in the plot was when Thomas ran into the maze at night. I categorized this as a main point because every boy knew not to go at night because of the grievers but Thomas wanted to save his friend who were in there and he needed answers so he overlooked the danger and ended up coming out alive in the morning.

Symbol

For a symbol I chose is the maze because it is a complex symbol representing both chaos and order. Every night the walls move and shift, making it harder for the Gladers to find an exit.

Setting

The setting is in a dystopian future. The exact place is a field that the boys made their home by using resources around them. Maze runner is supposed take place in denver colorado but that is not made obvious by reading the book
