Generate interest amongst students.

  • have a compelling reson for completing the project
  • provide a real-world connection
Anchor examples:
  • videos
  • articles
  • personal experience
  • students' experience

Task

What is the expected finished product? Students should know what the teacher wants them to complete and what quality is expected.

Directions

Let the students know how the project is to be completed.

When

How

What

  • When can students work on the project?
  • When is each part of the project due?
  • What tools can/should be used?
  • What topics should be addressed?
  • What steps should be taken?
  • How should steps be completed?
  • How should resources be utilized?

Student Choices

Make learning more student-centered by letting them make decisions about certain aspects of their projects.

Student Inquiry

Students do their own research, choose their own resouces, and evaluate the information they find.

Collaboration & Teamwork

Students work together to complete projects.

Working in groups promotes leadership and role responsibilities. Students can have an individual grade in addition to the group being graded as a whole.

Teacher Coaching & Feedback

The teacher plays a valuable role in students' projects.

The teacher can give advice on how to improve the student's work.

The teacher can help students stay on task.

The teacher can provide extra guidance.

The teacher can help resolve issues amongst group members.

Student Reflection

Students can as individuals and groups. They can reflect at any point during or after the project. Reflections provide insight into performance and learning for both the teacher and the student.

Eaxmples of reflection questions:

  • What did I learn?
  • How can I buid on my knowledge?
  • How did I perform as a group member?
  • What could I have done better/differently?
  • Am I happy with the final product?
  • Did I enjoy this project?

Public Presentation

Give your students a chance to show off their hard work! Artwork, posters, and models should be displayed. Presentations can be given to the class or other relevant audiences. Students can receive valuable feedback and have a sense of pride in their accomplishments!
