WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY?
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.

IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity
In recent years, International Women's Day has been governed by a theme to create change and address current events. This encourages women, non-binary folks, and allies to learn more about women's issues and take action. Past themes have included: #ChoosetoChallenge, #BalanceforBetter, and #PressforProgress. We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion when we #EmbraceEquity.

INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM
When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity and we embrace inclusion. We embrace equity to forge harmony and unity and to help drive success for all. Equality is the goal, and equity is the means to get there. Equality is not possible without intersectional feminism. What is intersectionality? The term was coined by civil rights activist, Kimberle Crenshaw in 1989 to explain how race intersects with gender to produce barriers for Black women. As a theory intersectionality has expanded to address all aspects of a woman's life such as race, ethnicity, class, religion, sexual orientation, ability, and physical appearance.
