The Hunger Games
Summary
Summary: The Hunger Games is a dystopian adventure novel by Suzanne Collins that transpires in future North America, in a country named Panem. It is divided into 12 districts. These districts are administered by a powerful and very restrictive Capitol. Every year, the Capitol hosts a yearly tradition, The Hunger Games, a televised “show” in which one boy and one girl between the ages of 12-18 from each district are chosen arbitrarily to fight to the death in an immense arena until the last one remains standing. This dystopian fiction accompanies the main character Katniss Everdeen, 16 year-old-girl living in District twelve. District 12 is not the richest of districts, everyone struggles to find food to feed their families, dying of starvation is never a big surprise.”Our part of the District… Men and Women with hunched shoulders, swollen knuckles, many who have long since stopped trying to scrub the coal dust out of their broken nails.”(Collins 4). Katniss later takes the place of her younger sister in the Hunger Games. Along with her male teammate also from District 12, Peeta Mellark. They then get mentored by a former champion Haymitch Abernathy and sent to the Capitol to begin preparation. When the games begin Peeta and Katniss form alliances with the other tributes but also come to the realization that they are fighting with themselves. They face difficult psychological and physical challenges throughout causing conflict. Later on, Katniss catches feelings for Peeta interfering with her survival strategies and alliances. As the strongest and smartest pair, they come to the end together, but rather brutally attacking each other, they declare to the capitol they will both consume poisonous berries killing both of them, hoping they would declare both of them winners.
