Ways he overcame obstacles of injustice

Levi Coffin

Coffin faced significant opposition from slave owners, who saw the Underground Railroad as a threat to their livelihoods. In 1839 he was charged with violating the Fugitive Slave Act, which made it illegal to help or shelter runaway slaves. Even though he faced the charges, he continued to face harrasment and threats from slaves owners and their supports. It got so bad that in one instance, a group of men set fire to their home, but him and his family escaped unharmed. Although he never experienced being a literal slave, the backlash of aiding fugitive slaves and fighting for them was horrible.
