La dopamina se produce en las neuronas dopaminérgicas en el área tegmental ventral (VTA) del mesencéfalo, en la sustancia negra y el núcleo arqueado del hipotálamo. Esta sustancia química desempeña un papel importante en la motivación, el placer, la atención y el aprendizaje, entre otras funciones cognitivas y emocionales.
