      • Trio finds out that George has discovered Myrtle's affair and is moving West
  • Tom finally confronts Gatsby, Gatsby admits his love for Daisy, and she never loved Tom

  • The trio discovers on their drive back that Myrtle has been struck and killed

  • The Docter T.J. Eckleburg billboard is lit by the sun, as a sign to George
    • George assumes that whoever ran over Myrtle, must have been her lover
    • George thinks the billboard is sign to seek revenge for God
  • George knows it could not have been Tom, as he arrived in a different car
    • He finds Gatsby floating in the pool. and takes his life
    • Takes his own life

      • Henry is proud of his son, tells Nick of Gatsby's early life
  • Nick moves back to the Midwest
    • breaks up with Jordan, who has already become engaged
  • Nick sees Tom on 5th Avenue
    • Tom was the one who told George it was Gatsby's car
    • Tom says Gatsby deserved to die, and he's upset he lost his affair apartment

CHAPTER 9: RECAP PT.2

  • Nick realizes Daisy and Tom are awful people
    • they destroy people and things, knowing money will always resolve their issues
  • Nick realizes the story is about the West
    • the East seems terrible by comparison
  • Nick spends his last night on Gatsby's beach
    • thinks about the early discoverers before the houses existed
  • Nick says America was once for dreamers and explorers
    • Makes comparision to Gatsby to Daisy
    • Green Island of America = Green Light on Daisy's dock
      • Gatsby's dream had already ended, his goals were now "hollow and empty"
      • Nick says that everyone's dreams are this way, but they cannot escape the current of their past
